🐾 Meet Fritter

The Heart Behind Apple Fritter Studio

Fritter is a 7 year old American Pitbull Terrier mix with a story as strong and beautiful as her spirit. She began her life in the South, where things were difficult early on. At just one year old, pregnant and abandoned, she found herself in a high-risk shelter with little hope for rescue.

Thankfully, a compassionate foster took her in, giving her a safe place to give birth and recover. But Fritter still hadn’t found her forever home.

In 2020, the Humane Society Waterville Area (HSWA) brought her to Maine as part of their transport program. That’s where everything changed, because that’s when I met her.

It was love at first sight.

From the moment I saw her, I knew she was meant to be with me. Fritter became not only my companion, but the soul of my studio. Her gentle presence and resilience inspire so much of my work, and it’s no surprise that the studio is named in her honor.

We are endlessly grateful to HSWA for the role they played in bringing us together. Fritter reminds me every day why I believe in second chances, love, and the power of rescue.

🎨 About the Artist

Hi, I’m Brittany, the artist behind Apple Fritter Studio.

I’m a Maine native with deep roots in the woods and fields of rural Oxford County, where my love for nature, animals, and art first began. I grew up surrounded by wildlife and dogs, always drawing and painting the world around me. That lifelong creative spark eventually led me to earn my Bachelor’s degree in Studio Art with a concentration in Drawing and Painting from the University of Southern Maine.

Art has always been my way of connecting with the world, but it was my rescue dog, Fritter, who gave me the courage to turn that passion into a full-time studio practice. Her resilience and companionship inspired me to share my work more boldly and to create a space where love for animals, color, and storytelling could thrive.

Today, I live and work in central Maine, creating heartfelt acrylic paintings that celebrate animals, florals, and the natural beauty I’ve always cherished. Making art is when I feel most grounded, most joyful, and most myself.

Thank you for being here.
